Chef Jimmy Lim Tyan Yaw’s love for good flavours started at a very young age. During his time in culinary school, he took part in numerous culinary competitions, most notably representing Singapore and clinching a gold medal at the 2006 WACS World Young Chef Challenge. During the same year, he also won Gold and the title of ׅ“Best Apprentice Team” at Singapore’s Two to Tango Competition in the FHA Culinary Challenge. He was nominated by Singapore newspaper “The Straits Times” as one of the “50 Young People to Watch”. In 2017, Lim founded JL Studio in Taichung City, Taiwan– the first restaurant to serve modern Singaporean cuisine overseas. This is a platform where he aims to share the flavours of his homeland of Singapore. At JL Studio, Lim serves modern Singaporean cuisine, redefined, reinterpreted and reimagined. He wants to share the wide spectrum of vibrant and exciting flavours Singapore and Southeast Asia have to offer. Within months of opening, JL Studio became the first Taiwanese restaurant to be listed by Secret Tables, which created a real buzz surrounding the restaurant. Two years later, in 2019, Lim was presented with the Miele One To Watch award at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019.
