GERMANY MEETS ASIA
Stefan Stiller
TAIAN TABLE, SHANGHAI, CHINA
Very few people indeed have mastered the art of combining German and Asian cuisine quite like Stefan Stiller. The culinary genius from Celle, Germany, began his impressive career at the age of 16 – in the area where he grew up. In 1999, he opened his first restaurant, Grand Cru, and quickly earned himself a Michelin star. In 2004, he moved to Shanghai, where he blossomed as a chef, restaurateur and mentor, established Stiller’s Restaurant and the EAST Eatery and, in 2016, introduced his innovative Taian Table concept. Taian Table pushed the boundaries of traditional fine dining, receiving a Michelin star within five months, followed by a second star in 2020 and a Michelin Green Star in 2022. In 2021, he successfully branched out to Guangzhou, opening Taian Table Guangzhou. And in 2023, he opened Stiller XINTIANDI, which received Michelin recognition within eight months. Stiller’s philosophy – that gastronomy is an art that awakens emotions and provides a colourful, lively experience leaving lasting impressions – has made Taian Table the most award-winning Western fine-dining restaurant in China.
