Kay Baumgardt still describes the bakery with a confectionery where he trained as the most important stage in his career. After all, that is where he laid the foundation for his philosophy, which he has perfected over the years. Baumgardt combines traditional craftsmanship with new techniques and unusual ingredients – he has even fully done away with white sugar. In 2016, he became the Executive Pastry Chef at Gasthaus zur Fernsicht and, in 2020, GaultMillau chose him as “Pastry Chef of the Year”. To be able to enjoy more time with his family, Baumgardt quit his role at Gasthaus zur Fernsicht a little over a year ago, but his fans still need not miss out on his creations: thanks to the book “Desserts Unplugged”, 50 of his masterpieces can be recreated at home.
